A CELEBRATION OF DO40 LEGACY HONOREE MEMBER JANICE HERBERT’S LIFE
Dr. Heather Mays, Janice’s daughter, leads a toast to Janice
DO40 was honored to participate in the celebration of the life of Legacy Honoree Janice Herbert on Sunday in the Ellington Room at Manhattan Plaza. DO40 president John Sefakis spoke of Janice's devotion to dance, DO40 and the theatrical community she was such a part of. Marilyn D'Honau, Mary McCatty, Virginia Seidel and Leni Anders, all DO40 Legacy Honorees were also on hand to lend a toast. Janice's family brought posters and albums of Janice's career dancing with the Radio City Music Hall Corps de Ballet (1953 - 56), her years on Broadway and on tour (1957 - 1970), before settling into family life with husband Leo. Janice continued to dip her toe and tap shoes in the biz, helping husband Leo, long-time David Merrick prop honcho, and earning an Emmy herself for putting the feathers on Sesame Street's Big Bird! Janice moderated a panel of 18 of her fellow RCMH Corps de Ballet members (with performance roots from 1938 -1978!!) back in 2009, and has championed DO40 throughout the last two decades. And a quote from another DO40 Legacy Honoree and board member Harvey Evans sums up what our organization strives for: "Whatever job you are doing, big or small, do it the best you can. Someone will notice. Love show business more than you love being a star." Thanks again to the Herbert Family for making Sunday such a special day for Janice.
